As I made my way back to Siloam Springs Arkansas to visit my parents, I stopped in Lowell. The Arkansas Run for the Fallen Traveling Memorial was set up outside J.B. Hunt.
The stark white posts and red striped flags stood out against the fall ground. As the wind whipped the flags around me, I walked through and read each name on the biography cards. There is a flag and card for every Arkansas soldier who has died in service since 9/11. Almost 150 men and women’s pictures stared back at me as I walked through and studied each one. There was one 18 year old and a few 19 year olds, teens too young to give up so much, mothers and fathers who left behind children and spouses.
I encourage you to attend and walk through this memorial. To read the names of each soldier and give recognition for the sacrifice they have made. The memorial travels around the state and if you would like to know when it will be coming your way, click here.
Arkansas Run for the Fallen is an event held in Arkansas. A team of runners take a 150 mile journey beginning in Ozark and ends at the steps of the state capital. They stop periodically to present a flag and biography of a fallen Arkansas hero. It’s a way to recognize and honor every service member in Arkansas who has given the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11.
